エラグ酸美白用医薬部外品の主成分です。
いちごの実の成分から発見された美白成分です。
メラニン色素を作るチロシナーゼの働きを、銅イオンを奪い去ることで抑えると考えられています。
動物実験では、ハイドロキノンと同程度のメラニン抑制効果が確認されています。
